Why do people think others want to see them on the front of Christmas cards?

Now that it’s so easy to get photos into card form, why do people seem to think that it is so cute to put their “beautiful” children/pets/etc. on the front of the cards? Does anyone else find this “pat myself on the back” gesture nauseating? It’s almost as annoying as the Christmas newsletter!
