Why didn’t he read the letter?

I understand foregin policy is the responsibility of the State Department but if the damn thing was addressed to the President, why the hell wouldn’t you pick it up and read it.
News agencies report “Bush was briefed on the contents of what was the first publicly announced personal communication from an Iranian president to his U.S. counterpart since the 1979 Islamic revolution.”
Ok, first you read, then Condi read. Simple. It was 18 pages, thats it. Not like a dissertation.
Is he that disassociated with foreign policy?
I’m sorry! I am referring to the letter written to George W. Bush by Iranian President Ahmadinejad.
Electro-Fogey, why is the U.N a relevant institution NOW but 3 years ago before the situation in Iraq?

The present problems with Iran aare supposed to be addressed by the United Nations. That’s what it is for, to help nations work out their differences. The US is not supposed to go around being the world’s policeman – the Presiden’t job is to take care of the US, not everywhere. Iran’s threat of nuclear war is more directed toward Isreal than the US, although the US is probably in the Iranian top 3 enemies list.
The Iranians have been called on by the UN to change their policies, but instead of dealing with the UN, they have stalled and defied the UN. Now, they are trying to run around the UN’s back by talking with Bush. One of the main protestations agains the war in Iraq was that Bush invaded without the UN, even though Saddam was in violation of the UN sanctions (supposedly). Bush wants to go by the letter of the law this time, and is kicking the problem back to the UN, where it belongs.
