Help! My community is trying to ban Pit Bulls?

Written by admin on January 22nd, 2010

There is a committee in my town that is working on a bill that would ban pit bulls. Pit Bull owners will have to get 100,000$ liability insurance, have a microchip implanted into the dogs, they have to be muzzled in public, and you have to post a sign in your yard reading, “Pit Bull Dog.” This is ridiculous to me considering how a dog acts depends on it’s owner. Besides that they are running stories of past pit bull attacks and they are running misleading statistics. If anyone has been through this before and can give me advice that would be great. I have already sent a letter to the news paper and I am planning on attending the meeting. Thanks for your help!
Statistically cocker spaniels bite more people per year. The statistics running in my paper are a bit falsified. There are many other dogs that attack, why are pits pointed out. Yes they have massive jaws so when they do attack they do damage. But should we make all dogs over 20 punds illegal? And yes evergreen, I like my dog better than the neighbor hood children.
Pit’s are not genetically bred to kill all humans. Do some research firsttoknow. I’m looking for some help here, not more falsified facts.

You have to step back and look at the facts here.

If I am a bad owner, abusing my dog to the point of attacking people….and I own a chihuahua….then someone may get their ankle nipped in a fit of rage. And the dog will be punted a mile.

If I am a bad owner…blah, blah…of a pit bull…then someone could LOSE A LEG! This is a completely different story. If it were even one or two occurances, fine. However, it seems like a yearly (if not more) occurance that someone loses a leg to a pit bull.

They are cute. They are sweet, when treated nicely. However, too many times they are viscious.

Do you value the dog over the neighborhood children?

Maybe you could start a petition against the ban. Try to get as many signatures as possible.

Pit bulls get such a bad rap. I own a pit mix who is the best and foster many other pit bulls for the local rescues. The sad thing is that we never hear the stories of the German Shephards or the Akitas or the other dogs that are known to be more on the aggressive side.

It is all about managing the breed and how the dogs are raised. You can have any breed of dog and if they are raised to be aggressive, fearful, abused, etc., they can hurt others.

    I wish you the best!

It’s unfair, any dog can attack if scared or mistreated.

Why don’t they ban German Shepherds, Dobermans and Rottweilers (all were used by the ***** to attack and maybe kill people)?

Owners who train dogs to be vicious should be penalized, not any specific breed.

Good for you. Breed Specific Legislature *****! I fostered a pittie for the rescue I volunteer at and she is the sweetest thing in the world! She was so funny, and smart! Gah, humans make me want to throw up.

This video is a little disturbing, but very moving and has a happy ending. If you’re up for it, it’s truly a great thing to see.

Hey pitbulls kill or disable people mostly children they are wild animals which are genetically modified.(or produced by humans)

  6. jesska_812 Says:

If there is a breed-specific ban proposal in your area,
please contact the Canine Legislation department at so we can provide you with materials and help put you in contact with other dog owners in the area. The sooner we get the word out, the better the chance we have of convincing legislators to pass a generic dangerous dog law instead of an ordinance or law that unfairly targets specific breeds.

All you people are ridiculous!!!!!! It is not the dog that has the problem it is the owner!!!! I have 2 pit bulls and they came from fighting homes. These 2 dogs are the most loving loyal dogs then any of you dogs!!!! I can guarentee it!! It just drives me absolutely crazy hearing this talk when no one bans chihuahuas, i have never met a friendly one, their all nasty nippy little things. True a pit can do more damage, but they dont bite out of pure nastiness, they bite if provoked. I think hslf of you people are the reason why this great dog is getting banned, you just dont understand them!!!

YEs the dog has been bred for fighting and to be mean, but this is ridiculous, a dog through generations of NOT doing such things will only be roused depending on treatment. I say start a petition and show the real facts on teh dog. It’s just like with roties, they show them as vicious murdering animals when truth is they are cattle herding dog. It’s time that people stand up to this. Educate people on the animals nature and how to care for them, how to treat them. Start a campaign against this hun, it’s rediculous.

do you live in washington state??
I do and they are trying to pass apit law but from what I have heard the law would say that you have to regester the dog with the county…
anyway american kennel club is all over it up here anyway they have hired attorneys to fight for the dogs
if I were you I would write the american kennel club(you can find there address on line) and let them know how you feel and ask for or thank them for the support.
I don’t think writting the paper is going to do any good just because so many ignorant people have already made up there minds about pit bulls..
I was attacked by a rott. chow mix and I needed stiches in my face arm and ear.. but I found out that the dog had been abused daily by his owner. I have worked with dogs my whole life,I have worked at the vets, groomer, breeder, trainer and never thought I would be bitten but it was because his owner was an *** I fought for the dogs rights and got him sent to a last chance shelter and the owner had to pay the bill… as it should have been.
so I know first hand about dog attacks and what BAD OWNERS NOT BAD DOGS can result in.
I wish you the best of luck.
if I can be of any help

I agree fully on how pitbulls shouldn’t be banned. Should as well banned the Golden Retriver, if things are that bad. Like other animals. Pits have feelings and, like children, they have to be raised the RIGHT way, in order to get the result of a sweet pitbull. Matter of fact, I took care of a pit mixed in rottwieller, named Danger, and I saw no dog that was sweeter than she was.
