Is it better to leave the keys in your vehicle when it is parked in your attached garage or take them inside?

Written by admin on December 14th, 2009

Should you take the keys out of the car and keep them in the house with you as my recent local newsletter suggests?

I’ve heard conflicting recommendations from law enforcement about this–When I lived in Atlanta, the police recommended that you leave the keys to your vehicles inside them while your car was in your locked garage. I live in the suburbs in a the Midwest now, in a community that is low on crime, but still want to be vigilant.

I leave mine in my car, since I don’t want anyone coming inside my house to find my car keys. They can have my darn car!

What do y’all think?

I would recommend taking them inside and placing them near your nightstand. In the event of an intruder or strange noises, reach over and press your panic button. It’s like instant home security and you already have it. Test it out to ensure your battery is strong enough for the signal to reach. Good luck.

First of all you need 2 sets of keys, one set you would want to keep hidden outside of the house, maybe in the garden. The reason you should not leave the keys in your car is because burglars can pick those locks without too much trouble and get in. Once they get in, if the keys are in there then they can drive off very easily with anything that is worth something from inside your house. You could also leave a set of keys hidden inside your garage somewhere in case you lose the first set. The trick is not to make it easy for the criminal

What’s most important is leaving the garage car door opener in your driveway with 2 pink helium balloons attached to it.

You’re assuming that someone is coming for your car. Never leave your keys in the car.

Take them inside and always lock your car.

you never want to leave your keys in the car.if your car was stolen and the insurance heard that you always leave your keys in the car, they might deny your claim and cancel your insurance
