A newsletter is much more timely than a magazine. Yes, a magazine is current but it can also feature things from the past, as a newsletter probably wouldn’t. Also, newsletters have one topic (example: A newsletter for the state of Pennsylvania won’t talk about anything but Pennsylvania news) and magazines are more broad. Also, newsletters are much smaller than a magazine.

Length and Method of printing. A newsletter is usually no more than a few pages in length, printing front and back. A magazine is much longer, and usually is printed on heavy gloss paper, where a newsletter is usually standard stock paper.

Well, both are periodicals which are published on a regular basis. A magazine tends to be a for profit publication depending on advertisers for a fair part of their revenue. Newsletters on the other havd have a much smaller target audience, such as a hospital or grass roots political organization. The reporting is more biased towards the view of the group. Newsletters are also shorter in length, often due to budgetary restrictions.

newsletter – news, short and straightforward, thin copy.
magazine – features, long and heartwarming, may be thin or thick.

A newsletter is usually produced in-house, regarding activities for a specific business or community. A magazine is produced on a larger schedule for a larger audience.
